Mentoring Program
Many of our volunteers are new to the law or new to the area of law affecting their VIP client. VIP is always looking for mentors to assist attorneys who seek extra help that VIP paralegals, attorneys, or their own firm, cannot provide. VIP mentors understand the concerns of VIP volunteers and are happy to help other volunteers. Mentors serve as a wonderful resource for volunteers on both substantive and procedural legal issues.
To ensure that our volunteers receive the help they need while still maintaining client confidentiality, we ask that our volunteer attorneys and mentors follow a few general guidelines:
To prevent potential conflicts of interest from arising, volunteer attorneys should not use the real names or other identifying information of any parties involved in their client's case when discussing it with a mentor. If a mentor finds it necessary during the course of communications, the mentor can run a conflict check.
We encourage volunteer attorneys to utilize VIP's training materials as the first step in solving a client question. However, we understand that talking through an issue with a knowledgeable colleague is more helpful than a training manual.
We hope you will volunteer as a mentor! To volunteer, please contact Rainy Papademetriou, Managing Attorney, at 215-523-9550, or op@phillyvip.org.
To request a mentor, please contact VIP at 215-523-9550 or phillyvip@phillyvip.org.
